Hi there,

Have a John E. Gleason, NYC, musician in 1870. Through his son Francis (Frank) who lived in Brooklyn, numerous Gleasons there and in western Long Island since then. Frank was a dentist.
Also with John E. Gleason in 1870 were Sahra 20, John Leo 15, Joseph 13, Katherina 22, Jenny E. 16, and an older Katherina 65 -- could be John's mother or mother-in-law. John traveled, probably for musician jobs.
He was born in York PA 1830, apparently to John and Catherine Gleason, also born PA. On the NYC census, two of the teenagers are lsted as born in Hartford CT. Perhaps Jogn was working there when they were born, if they are his children. His wife (2nd) might be Sahra, though 20 when John was 40. No woman near his age on census.
Don't know what the "E" in "John E" represents. Could it be from the same source as in your Gleason line?
Have info on descendants since John's son Frank and on the probable brothers and sisters of John. E.
