I also checked your #214 listing - in answer to that, I have a Martin Glazebrook first appears on a bill of sale dated 9/14/1730 - "John Gray, plasterer, to Martin Glazebrook, vintner, 3 horses and a pair of pistols and holsters for 40 L"In 1731 Martin appears on the Petit Jury list for Berkeley County, St. Philips Parish and the Special Jury List for Charleston..Colonial Plats, vol. 4, page 36 notes -"Survey ordered 31 July 1734 and certified 7 September 1734.For Martin Glazebrook-418 A, Craven County, Christ Church Parish, butting NE Solomon Legre, and vacant land, SE Elias Horry, SW and NW Wando Creek, SE and NE by Richard and Francis Spencers' land".Christ Church Parish was north of Charleston. After the death of Martin in 1736, further reference to his land is made in Charleston Deed Book H7.p.39- Register of Mesne Conveyance (Microfilm 23585 Box 19)To Ruth Glazebrook, widow, of martin Glazebrook, in trust for childre, Mary, Ruth and Anne Glazebrook, "Whereas, Martin Glazebrook did duly obtain a warrant for land and it was duly surveyed and he died intestate, before he could obtain a grant, leaving Mary, Ruth, and Anne, infants, his daughters, and co-heiresses at law. The land is granted Ruth, his wido, in trust for her daughters."Confirmation is found in the Council Journal (MFCo 5/438, p 87, original Public Record Office) 12th August 1737:Land Grant signed for Ruth Glazebrook in trust for Mary, Ruth, and Ann Glazebrook.418 A. in Craven County. The Register of St. Phillips Parish 1720-1758, Edited by A.S. Salley contains the following entries relating to the family:
1729 - March 29Ann Glazebrook, dau. of Martin and Ruth, his wife was born (page 9)
1729, April 20 Martin Glazebrook was buried (p. 252) ( perhaps an infant son?)
1736, Jan.12 Martin Glazebrook was buried (p. 277)
1736, April 27 Ruth Glazebrook married Jacob Axon (p.177)
1738,Oct.9Ruth Axon was buried (p.291)
1744, August 31 Ann Glazebrook married Michael Roche (p.441)
This is copied almost verbatim from correspondence I recieved last year from Christopher J Glazebrook, a noted researcher in England. Is Martin the Glazebrook you mentionedfrom p. 40 of the eary Petitions fo SC Council Journals.?
Julius Glazebrook is my GGGGgrandfather - According to his Rev. War pension application, he was born in New Kent Co.VA, April 15, 1752, enlisted in the militia for a total of 7 months from Charlotte County, VA in 1780 and again in 1781. (#S16831) He buys 100A in Charlotte Co in 1778 from John Orr (DB #4 p. 69) and sells 100 A in Charotte Co, VA. Oct. 5, 1795 to Benjamin Cook(DB #7 p 147).On Dec. 23, 1790, he married Mary Kevil in Rustburg, Campbell Co. VA ( this county adjoins Charlotte)Various Court Records show him in Charlottebetween 1789 and 91.A William Glazebrook is also listed in some of the Charlotte County Court records that are transcribed on the web, but another Glazebrook researcher that looked at the actual records, said that one of the entries for Julius was misread as William.Julius then shows up in tax records for Lincoln County KYfrom July 11,1799 thru July 30, 1806 for 50A along Rolling Fork.I haven't found any records for the next few years until he applies for his pension in 1832 from Casey County KY (formed from part of Lincoln Cnty.)Another petition to change the address of his pension is filed by Clifton, his son in May, 1841. Julius is living with a son in Putnam County,IN at that time and in very poor health. He is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Putnam County, IN - our family records show his death on September 14, 1841, however; the DAR records list it at 1847 ( I have no proof of which is correct)
I haven't been able to find anything definite on his first wife, the mother of all his known children(most researchers have her as Mary Garton) or his father's name- my family chart says John, others say Julius or Robert.
He had a son named William- who married a Rhoda Walker (I believe in Indiana) and had childrenRichard, Lathia(possibly Lethe), Sally and Artamacia.Clifton, my ggggrandfather, married Nancy Brinton in Mercer Co. KY and they had 9 children Lloyd, Masten, Warrren, Artemace, Bradford, Nelson, Berenia, Emily and Alfred. Julius daughter Elizabeth married Jessie Smith Jan. 27, 1803 in Lincoln Co. KY and his daughter Mary "Polly" married James Brinton March 15, 1806 also in Lincoln Co.These are the only children I have found proof of, however; there are probably 2 to 4 more according to the earliest census. Are you trying to connect with this family?I have a lot more information in this is of interest.
As I stated earlier, I had just started following Mary Glazebrook in SC after I found Thomas Kevil's will from Laurens Co SC naming Mary Glazebrook as a sister and finding the info on the estate sales in that county where they were both buyers. They appear only a page apart in the 1800 census - the genealogy librarian in Laurens County said that judging from other neighbors in the census that they were locatedin the NE point of the county between Greenville and Spartanburg.Mary is also in the 1810 census (spelled Glasebrooks) but the child is no longer with her.I was very interested in the other information you had found on her.
I don't know if any of this information will be of help to you - are you following a Glazebrook line?
