Evelyn Alexander Azar

COLUMBIA — Evelyn Mary Alexander Azar, beloved daughter and eldest of five children of the late George and Malvena Samra Alexander, went home to be with our Lord Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 11:11 p.m. She was a beautiful mother, a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, the daughters of the Holy Cross, Eastern Star, and a volunteer for Providence Hospital, all of which she enjoyed enthusiastically. She worked for years in the banking industry and went on to work with the SC Department of Mental Health.

Her main love and concern was for her son, Joseph S. Azar, founder of The Cyclist and Upstairs Audio & Video. Besides her son, she leaves two sisters, Elaine Alexander Glasscock of Fruitland Park, FL, Evon Alexander Abraham of Birmingham, AL; nieces, Malvena Elaine Akel, Linda Anne Akel, Cheryl Abraham; nephews, William S. Akel, Naif Abraham, Jr., and Eddie Abraham.

She was beautiful in life, giving much to others, more than she would take or receive. Born December 17, 1914, she saw much of life, the good and the bad, and faced many life challenges. Yet she overcame all and succeeded in making a good life for herself and her son, thanks to her strength, conviction, determination, love and faith.

Evelyn was beautiful in life, and even in death she was beautiful. May she now live again to love, laugh and dance, for she knows she is still truly loved by those that she touched, and is looking forward to a heavenly reunion.

She will be missed, and loved.

Funeral services will be at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral at 2pm Thursday, June 11, 2009, with interment following at Elmwood Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held after the interment in the garden at Jake’s, 2112 Devine St. You are invited to attend and share any stories and information of Evelyn Azar, as well as of her friends, acquaintances, events and places. It is greatly appreciated.

Goodbye mother. See you again soon. You will always be in our hearts, and will always be loved.
