Funeral services for Thomas Roger Roth Sr. of Dayton will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors. The Rev. Jim Peterson will officiate.
Visitation is scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27 and 28, in the chapel. Interment will be conducted at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in McMinnville.
Mr. Roth died at the Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland on Friday, March 23, 2007. He was 71.
Born in Portland on July 25, 1935, he was the son of Casper and Marie (Balmer) Roth. His family moved to Dayton when he was young, and he graduated from high school there in 1954.
He married Patsy Gladden on March 17, 1956, and they settled in Dundee.
He worked for Alpenrose Dairy in Portland for 39 years, retiring in 1996. He also owned and operated Roth Dairy Farm in Dayton, where he moved in 1966.
Mr. Roth's retirement amounted to finding new jobs. He maintained properties he owned and worked in his uncle's construction business.
He was a car, train, gun and Portland Trail Blazer enthusiast. He enjoying traveling, collecting coins and gambling occasionally for entertainment.
"Thomas was a kind, honest and genuine man who often teased people," his family said. "He was always there to help someone in need or give words of wisdom."
In addition to his wife, Mr. Roth is survived by a son, Tom Jr. of Prineville; three daughters, Geraldene Pierce and Susan Moe of Dayton and Rhonda Roth of Issaquah, Wash.; a brother, Paul of Newberg; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Hershifeldt.
