I thought I posted a reply to you, but I don't see it here.
Martha A. Southerland who married Joseph Gladden in the early 1900's in Stoddard Co., MO was the daughter of William E. Southerland/Sutherland and Threeza Loyd Jones, both of whom were born and married in Person Co., NC.
William, Threeza Loyd and their oldest daughter, Mary "Mollie" Southerland moved along with other family to Webster Co., KY about 1869. William E. (ED) and Threeza had three more daughters: Joanna, Martha A., and Ida all born in KY. They moved along with other family to Stoddard Co., MO in January 1885.
Mary married Thomas Edwards, had 8 children and Thomas died abt 1803.
Mary remarried to Jake Miller and died in 1957 in Stoddard Co., MO.
Joanna married James Hedger in 1891 and she died in 1893. A baby daughter also died.
Martha A. married Joseph A. Gladden on 25 Nov 1900. They had four children born to them:
An infant son who did not survive born in 1901;
a daughter Ruth who only lived a few days born in 1902;
Ed, born abt 1905 (No further info in my file);
Bill, born abt 1907 (No further info in my file), but I would love to have follow-up on these two children.
Joseph A. Gladden died 09 Oct 1906; and Martha, his wife, died 24 Jan 1914.
Who raised the two sons?
Joseph A.'s birthdate is 20 Jan 1874 (according to his tombstone). He and Martha are both buried in Sadler's Chapel Cemetery in Stoddard Co., MO.
Martha's birthdate is given as 11 Jul 1876.
The fourth daughter of William Ed. and Threeza Loyd Jones is
Ida J. Southerland/Sutherland who married B.J. Crane 14 Dec 1897 in Stoddard Co.
I do not have dates for their deaths or children, but have heard they moved to Joplin, MO.
How am I related? William Ed Sutherland/Southerland had three brothers, one of whom is John Benjamin Southerland who also moved with his family to Stoddard Co., MO in 1885.
I descend from his family. I was born and raised in Stoddard Co., but moved away in 1958 to the St. Louis area.
I do have more info on the Southerland family if you are interested, but have nothing further on the Gladdens. As I said, if you can help me with descendants of Jospeh and Martha, I would be most grateful.
Please let me hear from you.
