I have information that John Glackin and his younger brother, William, were natives of County Donegal, Ireland.Tradition holds that they were born near Mountcharles.John had been to the New World and returned to Ireland with glowing accounts of his adventures there. The younger William was impressed by his brother's experiences and decided he, too, would sail for the New World. He made his way to the port of Londonderry and is believed to have boarded the brig, Providence, arriving at the port of Philadelphia in 1783.He eventually settled in Kentucky and with his wife, Elizabeth, had 9 children. Many of the Glackins in Kentucky are probably descended from William. At least one of his descendents moved northward into the state of Illinois and settled in Tazewell County near the village of Armington. He later removed to Oregon.
