A biography and portrait of Duke Gist is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 1170. Father: F.M. Gist, b. 1831, near Plattsburg, Clinton Co., MO. His first wife was a Miss Finch and her only son, Watt, died at McFall, MO, in 1917. F.M. Gist married Xantippe Gartin, born Gentry Co., MO and died in DeKalb Co., MO, in 1872. Children: John (Bushong, KS), Frank (Gentry Co., MO), Joe (Colorado), Duke (Montana), Mary (Mrs. Ira Horney, Emporia, KS), Charles (Greeley, CO), Maggie (Mrs. Mack Christie, McFall, MO), George (died in McFall, MO, the winter of 1918).

In Jul 1904, Dillon, MT, Duke Gist married Miss Clara Sharkey, daughter of Neil and Mary (McGraw) Sharkey. Gist child: Mary, b. 7 Aug 1905.
