Just a few corrections to the Simon Girty history.
Isaac Girty was murdered in 1888 not 1892:
Muskogee Weekly Phoenix, November 29, 1888.
"Four men were killed in Vian - George Starr, Jesse Landrum, Bude Henderson & Isaac Gurtey. All were from Webbers Falls. Joe Starr managed to live through the shooting."
Tobacco Girty was probably born closer to 1889 since he was shown in the 1890 census as 1 year old. So, he was probably born after his father was killed.
Martha Girty, Isaac's first wife did not die after Isaac remarried. They must have seperated since she appears in the 1890 Illinois District census with her son Willie Girty.
Albert Sourjohn's Dawes file (11198) indicates that Isaac Girty's wife was Polly Bushyhead (Cha-we-yu-chin-ih) and not Haley as I thought. She lived with Sour-John (Oo-gah-sit-tah) and had a son named Albert, but she was not married to Sour-John. Sour-John died in 1880 and then she married or lived with Isaac Girty and had three other children; Eliza, Simon and Tobacco. I'm strating to figure out that the Cherokee did not always formally marry as we would assume today.
Tobacco Girty was shown as Chol-la Girty in Sourjohn's file and was born 1892 though this is incorrect. Polly Bushyhead Girty died in 1901 according to the file.
