Edward Gerard (Eduoard Girard)

My ggg grandfather was Edward Gerard (spelled in earliest records as Eduoard Girard)from Midland Michigan who was born in 1832 in Quebec. I have just found that he was buried in Saginaw Michigan in 1924 and the cemetery records show that his father was Wm or W Girard from Quebec.

Since Eduoard was born in 1832, it would seem logical that his father William (Guillaume?) would probably have been born around the early 1800's. I am wondering if Eduoard is the son of Guillaume the son of Jean Guillaume from Gaspe.

Any ideas of where I can turn next for information and searching? Thanks!
