Here's some info provided by Jackie Ginn and Ron Jones:

John's father was Sherwood H. Ginn(b.1793-1796), son of Jesse and Mary Ginn. Sherwood Ginn was born in Elbert Co. Ga., or traveled as a baby with his parents from North Carolina on their migration to Elbert county in the late 1700's.
Sherwood Ginn married Susannah Thomasson in Elbert. Co., Ga.. Susannah was born in 1794. Their children were Jeptha B.(b.1815),female(?), &George(b.1825)
Susannah died between 1825 and 1827.
Sherwood Ginn remarried in 1827 to Mary Ingaham. Sherwood and family had moved to Fayette Co., Ga. by 1830. Additional children were John I., Martha(b.1828),Asbury(b.1834),William(b.1837), and Rufus(b.1840).
The family had moved to Chambers Co., Alabama by 1840.
By 1850, Sherwood and Mary were both deceased.
