Hi Tina,
I think it goes something like this.
Our ancestors left Africa about 30,000 years ago. Some went off to Asia, then, after the last Ice Age, migrated to Europe about 4,000 years ago (the Indo-Europeans- which included the Celts).
Some of these Celts ended up in Ireland, around 2,500 years ago, where they remained (probably happily fighting each other and their neighbors) for a couple more thousand years. It looks like the family branched out to the US and Canada, and I think we've been hopping over there ever since.
It's hard to seperate myth from fact, when talking to the Irish branch. According to my Uncle Brendan, we're direct descendants of Finn McCool- an Irish giant who threw the Isle of Man into the Irish Sea.
According to my dad, the Ginns were a wild clan, who lived on the West Coast of ireland, and ate raw meat.
Who knows- but Ginn is an Irish name and I think our roots are there. Ireland is full of Ginn related names- McGinn, Guinness, McGuinness, etc.
