For those who don't recognize the term, "metis" is a French word defined as "mongrel" in my 100-year old concise dictionaries, but with the added meanings of "crossbreed, half-caste, and half-breed" in my new, larger dictionaries. It refers to the intermarriage of French-Canadian families with the native Indian peoples of North America. There is no doubt that several branches of the family are "metis", particularly in the Dakota Territory and the northwest states of Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. For some web links to sites with some info on these metis lines, go to the links page of my Gingras Genealogy site at: http:/zhangrau.freeyellow.com That should get you started.... And, oh, hey, HI !!!
