This is not to say that your Gines is a "Gowen". I haven't seen a Gines anywhere that I recall in my research of the Guynes, Goyne, Guin, Gwyn, etc.. You may be unrelated to any "Gowen" family tree.
However, Gynes sounds like a mispelling of Guynes. Goynes etc. sound like existing "Gowen" names. As for Gines, perhaps other Guynes families than mine took to prounouncing it Ginz (long i) instead of Gu-winz. Since there is a large body of already existing Guynes genealogy research, I would start there.
Just a suggestion. :)
If it is a Spanish derived surname then I cannot help you. The "J" in Spanish is prounounced with kind of a throat-clearing sound, which probably sounds closest to a "G". It seems like some of the Gines names may be related to "Gowen", and some may be related to Spanish surnames. Interesing!
