A pamphlet called the O. Hoagland Genealogy, at the Indianapolis State Library (the Hoaglands were from Kentucky), refers to property allegedly purchased by Wolfort Weber (John Francis Giltner's father-in-law) in what is now "the centre of New York City.It is this property through their ancestress, Catharine Weber, that the descendants of John Francis Giltner in recent years have laid unavailing claim."(The Hoaglands' ancestor, Okey, married Mary Giltner, who was John Francis and Catharine's g-granddaughter.) Later on in the pamphlet there is a garbled explanation (which may be one of the many reasons they lost) as to the basis of their claim, which in part appears premised not so much on the Giltner connection, but on a connection through the Van Winkles who intermarried with Anneke Jans' family.
I've seen the litigation referred to elsewhere as well . . . mostly in general terms about a land fortune in NY unjustly lost to the family, with utterly no detail. Some of those may have been confusing Haarlem in Holland with NY, but this reference in the Hoagland genealogy refers to more recent (vis a vis the time the pamphlet was written) litigation.
There does appear to have in fact been litigation involving Anneke Jans, who was supposedly Wolfort Weber's daughter, and her property.I found several years ago a pamphlet listed in the NY Public Library's catalogue that appeared to concern some sort of legal dispute involving her and the land on which Trinity Church is built, but I never had a chance to have it pulled from the stacks. The next time I was in NY with a few hours to spare, I couldn't find it, but that may be because I had not looked up the names again to do a proper computer search.
