Hi Judy, According to "The History of Fitzwilliam", Herbert Hayes Gilson was b. Nov 9, 1876 in Royalston, son of Daniel Edgar Gilson, who is the son of Henry Gilson and Martha Patch.

Family members often crossed the Massachusetts border, into the border towns of Royalston, Winchendon, Athol, & Baldwinville/Templeton. I have been unable to confirm Herbert Hayes Gilson's birth in Royalston, but that seems to be the case with many of this family's records.

I can find no corresponding birth for Henry Gilson, listed as being born in Groton Aug 16, 1817. His death record also lists Groton as POB. Interestingly, both he an his wife died on the same day, April 6, 1896. He is listed as "Married", and she is listed as "Widowed", with his cause of death as Old Age, and hers, Consumption.

There are no parents listed for Henry, and only one parent for Martha Ann Gilson - Abram Patch.

This has been my brick wall, as I am still unable to find anything on Henry's parents.

If you come across anything, please let me know.
Thanks,

Diane
