Aussie Gilsenan in New Zealand
Hello fellow Gilsenans!
I had no idea that there was a little Gilsenan community out there with an established communication network!
Firstly, how annoying is spelling out our last name to people?! I have decided that the most effective letter grouping when spelling aloud is "gil-s-e-nan".Comedy spelling errors I have received on letters and name tags include "Gilsenana", "Gilsenham" and "Gilsensen".I have managed to nab myself a man with the surname Smith- looking forward to taking up that name!No disrespect of course to all you other Gilsenans- I suppose the name makes us unique.
A little bit about me perhaps...Well, I was born on the Gold Coast in Australia, I am 24 and have 5 brothers and 1 sister. My Dad is Michael Gilsenan who lives in Singapore and is a Captain for Singapore Airlines. He was adopted as a baby and lived with his adopted (Gilsenan) parents in Papua New Guinea growing up.
I am now living and working in New Zealand for a magazine and have been in touch with a distant relative Sean Kelly who runs a jet boating business (can't remember the exact family connection).
Anyway, feel free to drop me a line! For all you Irish Gilsenan's a big hello- I visited your beautiful country with my sister in 2001 and fell in love with the place.
Cheers,
Amy Gilsenan
