GELSINON, Phillip 1840s W. Meath to US

My name is Tom Gelsinon, and I'm trying to trace my family's roots in Ireland. We have records of a Phillip Gelsinon who emigrated to the USA in the mid-1840s from County West Meath. The name seems to have been pronounced something like "gil-shannon" and was often spelled differently in letters. The correspondence that we have from that period was probably dictated, the actual writing being done by a literate person such as a local parish priest in W. Meath. If anyone reading this has information on the history of this family name, I would be interested in hearing about it.
