In the 1790s, George and Jesse bought adjoining farms, in Greenville County, SC, from John Childress. The "widow" Gilreath that I mentioned in the original message on George had to be the widow of Jesse. Jesse's land (260 acres) was sold in 1830 to his third oldest son, (John) Wesley Gilreath. The deed lists Mary as the "widow of Jesse" and also lists all of Jesse's children. The deed was then signed by each child (sons Wesley and George H. excepted) as well as the widow Mary. Son Wesley, of course, was the purchaser of the land and son George H. was now living in Georgia, thus neither one signed (as sellers) to release the deed. In addition, Mary appears as a widow on the 1830 census. With his brother, Jesse, owning the land next to George it should leave little doubt that Mary is the widow Gilreath that George names (in his aforementioned deed).
