Just looked (again) at the 1810 census for Spartanburg County, SC and Baxter's surname was definitely written as CILBREATH. In the past, I have mistaken the letter "C" for a "G" and let the last name go as Gilbreath. This time I compared the "G" and the "C" in name of George M. Carter with the last name of Baxter. I also compared other given or surnames beginning with a "C" or a "G" and feel confident that "C" was intentional.
Nevertheless, I am certain that this is Baxter Gilbreath and the error in his surname was simply a mistake by the census taker.
