Hi All,
I too am a Gilpin descendant. My 4th Great Grandparents were Elias Stanley and Ruth Bradley. Anyone out there have more on them? Other then that. On the Washington question. The Gilpins owned quite abit of property in Birmingham Twp ,Chester County, Pennsylvania Colony. This land was fought over during the Battle at Chadds Ford in Septmber, 1777. I've read a number of places where G.W. issued orders for his forces to not disturb the locals if at all possible. I also read somewhere that he specifically mentions his relationship to his cousins, ie. the Gilpins in his correspondance and orders dating to this period(Autumn 1777). Unfortunately I've been unable to find my copies and can't locate what record set these notes are from. Anyone out there know anything?
Thank You, Barry Dusel
