Your Charles could possibly be a son of Isaac
Gilpin, b. Mar 31, 1837 in OH. He died in Windsor IL, which is not far at all from Mattoon. Isaac's father was Thomas, b. 1811 in KY, died Windsor. Thomas was a brother to my 3rd great grandmother, Nancy Gilpin. Their father was Eli, b. ca 1775 in VA.
