Joyce,

I am still trying to fully identify my great great grandfather John GILPIN, who married Nancy A. JONES from Alton, IL, approximately 1860. I suspect he is the brother or cousin of William W. GILPIN of Alton, IL,who enlisted in the Army in 1864. My great grandfather, John's first son, was named Cantley Washington GILPIN, aka "Wash" GILPIN. His second son was named William. John's second daughter was named Margaret Ellen GILPIN. The family moved from Pike Co, IL, to Henry Co, Mo, to OK, with at least two children moving on to AZ. There are some similar names, but no definite links.

The Mexican War Pension file of Martha Ann (Ryan) GILPIN of Alton, Anderson Co, KY, widow of veteran Geoge Washington GILPIN, includes an affidavit dated 19 August 1887, witnessed by a Thomas GILPIN, then aged 50, also of Alton, KY. Thomas' relationship to George and Martha is not identified in the file. I have not yet confirmed a link between George and my line, except his middle name Washington and his nickname "Wash"; but I assume that was a fairly common nickname.

I will keep you posted regarding any possible links to your Thomas and Marrion as I attempt to fully identify my John GILPIN.

Regards, Michael.
