GILMOUR, HONORABLE
GILMOUR, HONORABLE GORDON HUGH Gordon passed away peacefully in Nanaimo on May 17, 2009 with his family by his side. He will be greatly missed by his five children, David, Marilyn (Paul Starr), Stuart (Lynn Dorsay), Scott (Niki), and Kate (John Mulvaney), his eight grandchildren and his two small great-grandsons, as well as his extended family and many friends in the golfing, boating, and ham radio fraternities throughout British Columbia. Gordon was born on June 9, 1925 in Vancouver. He was raised and educated there, graduating from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law, class of 1948. He took time out of his education for wartime service in the RCAF. Shortly thereafter, he married his beloved Jeanie, his devoted wife of 58 years. Gordon began his legal career practicing with his father, Stuart Hugh Gilmour, and was part of the legal community in Vancouver for over 25 years. He moved to Kelowna in 1976, was appointed to the bench of the Provincial Court in Kamloops in 1977, and subsequently served in Kelowna from 1980 until his retirement in 1997. Gordon and Jean moved to Nanaimo in 2001 to be closer to family and to enjoy better golfing weather. With his generous nature, keen sense of humour, and ready acceptance and enjoyment of people from all walks of life, Gordon quickly became an integral part of every community in which he found himself. Everyone loved "Old Gord." We will remember him for his wisdom, compassion and the deep, lasting connections he made with all the people in his life. A memorial service will be held at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club on Friday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Lower Mainland Chapter at 4050 Gravely St. Burnaby, B.C. V5C 4A5.
