When I was a kid (I am 35 now) I saw a hand-painted family crest for Gilmour which included a line from top right to bottom left in silver over a solid field of green. The line had 3 green shamrocks on it evebly spaced, and the green had lyre's in silver. the helmet on top was one of those coffee pot shaped ones (kind of square), and a hand and quill on top. I have been searching for crests as well and these automated geneaology sites seem to create things that are a bit arbitrary.
I once read an article about how family crests were created 5-600 years ago, and that the ONLY things that were carried from one generation to the next were colors, and icons. That the shapes, and arrangements were at the complete discretion of the matriarchs of the family septs or clans. In fact I once saw a program/website several years ago where you could actually build your own crest based on these concepts and have been seaching for it ever since. If I do find it again I will be certain to post it here.
I do have SOME history of the Gilmour name from reseach that my youngest uncle did, as well as some group sheets, and will post them on another message.
(I live in Portland, Oregon with my wife and son. I am third generation Gilmour born King County, Seattle. My Great Gradfather was Samuel Gilmour from someplace in Canada, could have been Ontario, but I believe it was called "West Canada".)
