I may have a lead for you.James Gilmore, Jr. s/o James of Rockbridge Co. VA. moved to Pulaski/Lincoln Co. KY prior to 1782.He and his wife had many children, including:
1) Robert, son b. 1787,named after James, Jr.'s deceased brother, whose death in 1777 by Indians precipitated the killing of Chief Cornstalk).
2) Anderson, sonb. 1789.James, Jr.'s sister Margaret Gilmore m. a "Mr.Anderson", and it's thought they were among James, Jr.'s siblings who moved with him to KY. This son may have been named after Margaret's husband.
3) John, oldest son of James, Jr.He married Priscilla Smith, and they named their first son Anderson Smith Gilmore, b. 1809 in Pulaski Co. KY. and d.1878 in Muskogee, OK.
James Gilmore, Jr. was probably the Captain of Gilmore's Rifles, and well known for his role in the battle of Cowspasture during the Rev. War.(There is some who believe Capt. Gilmore was James, Sr.) Many of the men in Gilmore Rifles along with several of James, Jr.s siblings also moved to Pulaski Co.KY. and it's possible his bro. in-law, Mr. Anderson was one of them. There was a soldier with surname Andersonat the battle of Cowspasture, but I don't know if he was with Cpt. Gilmore or not. There is a deed index in Pulaski Co. that refers to a "Robert Anderson .... to John Gilmore" re. a "1804 relinquishment." The 1783 tax list for Rockbridge Co. VA includes a Robert Anderson (b. by 1762) as a tithable of James Anderson.
Hope this is helpful and not too confusing. I'll be checking my files for more info, and if I learn more I'll let you know.Hope you'll do the same, as I'm very curious about a possible connection.
Joanne
