Am adding new material that answers the question of the identity of James Gilmore of KY who, in his RWV application stated he was born in PA in 1745. As the application notes, this was James Gilmour, and it was more than just a difference in spelling. He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on 17 January 1745, and moved with his family to Augusta County, Virginia in 1748, when he was 13 years of age and “lived there until grown”. This is documented in his pension application #S30432, for military service in Virginia and Indian Wars, submitted under oath in Christian County, Kentucky on 3 September 1832 when he was 87 years of age.

This James appears to NOT be a relative of the Kerrs Creek Gilmores. He moved to KY about the same time as James Gilmore, Jr. s/o James and Martha Dennison Gilmore), and for a time, both men were in Pulaski/Lincoln Co. Later, James Gilmour lived in Christian Co. His descendant, Ron Stephens, has excellent documentation which clearly distinguished these two men.

Joanne
