Albert M. GILMORE b. abt 1822 GA d. 30 Apr 1862 Lynchburg, VA
This gentleman is my current brick wall in tracing my Gilmore line. Everything I can find says he is the son of HUGH GILMORE b. 1814 GA d. abt 1850 GA m. ELIZABETH MURPHY b. 1817 GA d. 14 Oct 1861 Pike Co., AL. My problem with this is that Hugh didn't marry Elizabeth until 1841, and Albert was born when Hugh was only 8 years old, and Elizabeth was 5!! Obviously this isn't the right parentage.
I'm wondering if Albert was an orphan and Hugh was a brother, making STEPHEN GILMORE b. 1791 d. 1827 and a daughter of NATHAN TAUNTON his parents, or if Albert was a cousin or nephew from another Gilmore line. Or maybe even adopted outright, and not a Gilmore at all.
Has anyone been able to find out the true parentage of Albert M. Gilmore? He was a CSA soldier, part of Hill's Co. (Co.L), 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment, and he died in the Battle of Vicksburg. His widow MARY CONNER GILMORE b. 17 Feb 1829 Hancock Co., GA d. abt 1920 received CSA Widow's Pension payments until 1916 at Covington Co., AL.
Thanks in advance,
Lorri
