Dear Gypsy, from books, Abstracts of Deedsof Cumberland Co. Vol. 1, book 2- written by William C. Fields, he lists this- March 27, 1762 John Newberry of Cumberland Co. millwright, &wife, Elizabeth, to their son-in law Joseph Thames(Thimes) of Bladen Co. for 5 s.proc, 7 and 1/2 acres on Cross Creek, joining head of Thomas Matthews' lands, on Matthews corner, part of patent to Thomas Brooks Sept. 22, 1750, sold to him by Thomas Matthews, who sold 50 acres to John Newberry. Witt; Jno. Forrester, Richd. Grove. Proved by Richd. Grove Feb. 1763.
From records of Rassie Wicker,book on ancient records of Moore Co. John Newberry married the daughter of Thomas Matthews Sr. and Mary. Thomas Matthews was one of the first settlers in Cumberland Co.First land grant I have found on him was 1735: Anson Co.Later Cmberland, Moore Co.
