Louise--name was Barbaro not Sbarbarra --in the late 40s Bossy and Louise owned 2 homes on Dalton St. in Newburyport--they lived in one house and rented 1/2 of another house to my family. She was a wonderful person. The James Family and the Gillis were very close--My grandfather worked and was a personal friend of Bossy----My father drove one of Bossys cars taking people to work during the war at the Portsmouth Navy Yard.I was with Bossy at his gas station waiting for election returns the last time he ran for mayor. He was defeated and that night he closed the sta. and went home to Plum Island never to return--his death was a shock-------He had a huge funeral. The following year a new bridge was built between Newburyport and Salisbury Ma. I had been elected to the City council and was able to get the new bridge named for him and it remains today--(THE ANDREW J. BOSSY GILLIS BRIDGE) Bossy did a lot of good for a lot of people and you either loved or hated him---he stood for the working people. He is buried with his mother in St. Marys cemetery Newburyport Ma. ( 7 times mayor ) Notify Administrator about this message?
