My ancestor is Duffy Gillis b. c.1749 probably in Scotland. He was nephew of Angus Gillice. Duffy was living on his uncle's property (in what is now Redbank) in 1786 and may have been resident there from the time of its settlement in 1775. His oldest son was named John was born c1793. I have always wondered if Duffy was his given name or a nickname. He sure lines up with being your John. Do you think its is possible? I have not been able to find out anything on Duffy's ancestors other then the connection with the uncle Angus. Does the name Angus tie into your information? I know of no other contemporary Gillis families in the area at the time.

I have lots of information on Duffy and his descendents and would gladly share with you.

My line of Gillis went west, some to British Columbia and my line to Washington State. I presently live in South Carolina.
