Hello Lauren:
The community you mention as Kate's resting place is quite likely my hometown, Miscouche. MacIsaac's Road is quite a distance west,so it is not the same place at all. AND there are no Gillis families from there that I am aware of. (Many, many folk came to Miscouche from surrounding areas - 35 miles, plus - for baptisms, marriages, etc.)
I recanted the story of the carriage shop burning to my dad and he knew nothing of it.
BUT, I'm still curious about the family that made it to Boston and Ipwich.
The lands that run between "Egmont Bay" where your family was residing and "Malpeque Bay" where my family were residing are but 20 miles distant at places. It's highly probable that these early Gillis settlers were related. In fact one land map has an Egmont Bay landowner very close to family property at what is now Miscouche.
What do you think - Could we be connected?
Dawna
