I'll keep looking. Strangley, I can't find Edgar's father Charles in 1861 or 1851. He might have enlisted, like so many, and been out of the country, I suppose. I guess a visit to the Suffolk RO is next on the agenda!
I was at grammar school in Ipswich with a Gerry Gillings - he became a good mate of mine when we were young - and it'd amuse him enormously if I could find that he was a distant relative.
