This is for all who are interested in finding the father of Rev. John & Sarah Brasier Gilliland,of Alabama. First-- there are a few criteria's that Must be met before his father can be named. First-is how the "old folks" named their children. We know that the FIRST SON was named after his FATHER -or FATHER'S FATHER, & the second son would be named after the FATHERS FATHER-OR-MOTHER'S FATHER, depending who the first son was named after. The daughter's would follow the same with the mother's mother-or- mother's names. SO- JAMES ALEXANDER GILLILAND fit this criteria, because we all know the names of their, John & Sarah's, children! NOTE -this is not the James, b. 1768, that is son to Alexander Gilliland, b. 1737 & d. 1795!!! They are however being intermixed and some of the GENCOM'S are CORRUPTED because of this intermixing. This REV. JAMES ALEXANDER GILLILAND, b. 1772 -M- 1799 Jane Nesbitt, b. 1771. AND both James & Jane are buried in Copiah Co., Miss.-----NOT IN OHIO!! Family lore from John & Sarah's family is this. One of the Gillilands that came into Al. DID NOT like the way the Indians were being treated in Ala., so left & went into Miss. This James fit that "lore"-- John(Sarah) respected the Indians and would have them into his home for meals, and his oldest son James married an Indian maid, and had a son William Vanburen Gilliland. Also DNA Testing is showing that all or most of the Tenn. Gillilands are from group 1, and most of them are showing to be out of the 1700/1701 John Gilliland that came over from Ireland and he died at 116 years of age in South Carolina. All the Pendleton, Greenville, Spartanburg, South Carolina, are most likely his descendants!! The John that came into Tenn AND his family members are from this John!!!! These are the Gillilands that came into the North Alabama in the early 1800's!! Facts for this James Gilliland!!!!
