John Gilliland is buried at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

In a well marked grave alongside John Sevier and his family, just off the main road as you turn onto Wears Valley Road. Sevier and Gilliland were both soldiers in the Battle of Kings Mountain, N.C. Robert his son migrated to Somerset, Kentucky around 1800, where he disappeared for all records. His wife is buried in the Gilliland cemetery just outside of Somerset, Kentucky, Robert's three sons are recorded as living in the Somerset area. His son James Harvey, is also buried in the Gilliland cemetery.
