John Gilliland and his wife are buried in a well marked site, just as you turn off the main road, onto Wears Valley road, alongside John Sevier at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. John and John Sevier were friends who fought at the Battle of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
His son and his wife migrated to Somerset, Kentucky around 1800, where Robert disappeared some three years later. His wife is buried in the Gilliland Cemetery, just outside of Somerset, Kentucky.
