I know of the John Gilliland that was born in Augusta, VA in 1725 and died in Cocke County, TN in 1798. He married Elizabeth Young (dob 1753 Augusta, VA and dies in 1795 Cocke County, TN)they were married in 1770 in Washington, TN. John Gilliland and his family were the first white settlers in Cocke County, TN and he planted a crop of corn to stake claim to the land. John eventually donated 50 acres of land to erect a town hall and court house. John and Elizabeth had many children and I will list the ones that I know....
Robert, John, James, Priscilla, Able, Harvey, Isaac, Elijah, Josiah, Sarah, Mary
There may have been at least one more that was most likely female but I cant find the name. Isaac and unnamed female were the last born and that was in 1788 so they may have been twins and she might have passed away at birth. Isaac was my great great great grandfather so that is why I have gathered this much info. I hope this helps you in some way!
