Linda,
I have been working on William's line trying to untangle the web of interwoven Gillilands in Huntingdon County PA. My most recent work involves the Huntingdon plat Atlas of 1873, and the listings for the Gillilands on the 1870 census. I have the eleven children of William's father John. Best tracking that I have done gives John's birthplace is Ireland based on William's data from the 1880 census. This would tend to make this the John 1768 (Ireland) who married Hanna Michaels and settled in Black Log valley near Orbisonia. William seems to track on the Census as 1805 born in Pennsylvania. The 1850 Census does not have listings for Robin (1792) or Robert (1807); and Matthew is listed as Mathew (1788) and Margaret is listed as Margaet (1802). The rest (Andrew (1791); John (1794); David (1797); James (1800); William (1805); Samuel (1809/1812); and Alexander (1810) seem to be listed in the 1850 Census. I have the names for William's two wives as Margaret Johns and Mary Ann Moore. The 1870 Census lists Mary as wife age 35, three Gilliland children one of whom is George age 3. John Woods is not listed {possible dead}, and Frank Woods is listed as age 10. The farm is along Black Log creek about six miles north of the Gilliland Cemetery, and about six miles south of the Valley Point Bretheran Church, and another cemetery lies between the church and William's home farm. Right next to them is what I take to be William's son Samuel on his own farm. How do you tie into this line Linda, and what do you have on this Gilliland line? Remember that another line of Gillilands are located northwest in Barree Twp on Shavers creek settled by David (abt 1770/75 to 1826). There is a lot of the same names, so it helps to have a program so you can tell the players apart. Let me know what you think. Cheers.
Paul M Gilliland
