I am trying to connect with other family members or researchers of this family. I have been searching for about 5 years and would love to share info and getting additional info on the family.
James B. Gillis/Gillies married a Mary E. UNKNOWN Bef 1847 in Philadelphia, PA. He was a Freemason which I received information from the Kingston Lodge.
The Masonic record of James B. Gillies is, as shown in Membership Book 3-1, p. 404: Age: 32; Occupation: Dealer (doesn't say what kind!); Residence: Philadelphia; All Degrees in Kensington Lodge No. 211 in 1856: Entered Apprentice May 2, Fellow Craft July 9, Master Mason September 12. Suspended for non-payment of dues December 6, 1861; Restored to good Masonic standing January 1, 1886. No death date recorded.
I have traced him in the Philly area his entire life. In 1850 he is living in Northern Liberties, 1860 Philly, 1870 Philly 3-8th Dist 19 Ward, 1880 Philly Dist 592. He died sometime between 1886-1900.
James and Mary had the following children -
1. Emily or Emely Gillis or Gillies b. abt 1847 Philly
2. Cornelia Gillis or Gillies b. abt 1850 PHilly
3. Charles F. Gillis or Gillies b. Mar 1857 Philly he married Ida Tomlinson (daughter of Samuel & Lydia) 15 Mar 1878. Ida was born Feb 1858 in Philadelphia, PA. Charles died abt 1905. They had 3 children Wallace Mayhew, Rhoda E., and Walter Eunis Gillies
4. William S. Gillis or Gillies b. Nov 1859 Philly, PA he married Mary S. Jones abt 1882.
5. Theodore Gillis or Gillies b. Apr 1862 Philly he married Kate Raffel abt 1882. They had James B, Helen, Catherine Katie, and Theodore Jr. all born in PHilly.
6. Anna C. Gillis or Gillies b. 25 Jun 1864 PHilly she married Clarence J. Young 1887 Philly PA.
7. Frances L. Gillis or Gillies b. Aug 1861 Philly PA he married and Emma/Amelia Unknown Bef 1892. The had Charles Jefferson, John C., Clarence, and Frances.
8. James B. Gillis or Gillies b. Feb 1872 PHilly he married a Florence Wade abt 1885 in PHilly. She was the daughter of Joseph and Hattie. They had 1 son James Wallace Gillies b. 8 Feb 1897 in PHilly PA. James Wallace died 10 Nov 1986 in Winter Park, Orange Co., FL.
I have desperately tried to trace them down or back without much success. I would love to connect with anyone who might have additional info on the family or family members.
