There are not necessarily lots of us but you are certainly right in that there are few connections. Do not let this get you down, it is the norm, but one day you will hit the jackpot. I am following three Highlander families and have made no direct connections over the web, although I have gained a great deal of information. Contrast that with another family line where I have come into contact with a branch I did not even know existed!
By the way, Gillies is not all that common a name, but it is over represented in the Geelong phone book. I am interested in why many Gillies came to Geelong.
