My Gillies family lived in Applecross, then Lochcarron, Ross-shire until 1854 when they emigrated on the "Lady Peel" to Geelong, Victoria (Australia). Great grandfather John was a shepherd who worked on the Mount Bute property before taking up land at Tatyoon, Ararat. John's sister Elizabeth arrived in Geelong 18 months before the rest of the family. She was a stowaway on board the "Araminta". Hope to find some connections.
