Gilland Name Origin

I have heard of the Gilland family coming from Scotland originally.I am curious, too.I was told my Gilland ancestor's name was changed from Gilliland to Gilland by the person who wrote the name down when they arrived in the U.S.
My line is:
William Gilland and C Clark. They had at least one son, James, who married Esther Sixbury and had 4 children; Hiram, Carrie, Ella and Albert. Hiram married Mary Wigglesworth. Ella married William VanLoan and Albert married Marian Sharp. I don't know about Carrie.Marian and Albert had one son, my dad, Gerald. He married Ellen Lindstrom.
If anyone has a connection I sure would appreciate hearing from you.
Jeri
