In the 1850 census for Pickens District, South Carolina, Lucinda Gillam (38)is head of household. There are ten people/children living with her ranging from ages twenty to two years of age. My ggg grandfather, George Washington Gillham (17) is listed in this household. I am assuming that this Lucinda Gillam is his mother and the others Elizabeth, Ann, Jackson, James, Nancy, Theodore, John N., Melissa and Adaline) are his siblings. In 1840, Lucinda is still the head of the household. There are four males under five years of age, one male between 5-10, one female between 10-15, one female between 20-30 and one female between 30-40 listed. In 1830, Ezekiel Gillam, is here and head of household. Listed are one male 60-70, one female 50-60 and one female between 10-15 years of age. George Washington Gillham was born 1833 in Pickens District, South Carolina. As an adult, he moved to Cherokee County, Alabama, where he married and lived until he died about 1907/08. There is no doubt in my mind that the George W. Gillam in the 1850 census in the household of Lucinda Gillam is my ancestor. Because of the ages of the children, there has to be a man in this picture somewhere. I am hoping that there is a marriage record some where showing who the husband of Lucinda Gillam might be. I don't know if the Lucinda in the 1840 census is the same Lucinda in the 1850 census. Could be the female between 20-30 listed in the 1840 census is the 1850 Lucinda. No way of knowing for sure at this point. The Ezekiel Gillam in the 1830 census cannot be the child of Thomas Gillham (Rev. soldier), but still might be a descendant. I thought Ezekiel J. Gillham born in 1774 might "fit". I know he went to Georgia, but maybe he stopped in SC on the way. If any one has information on the above individuals and their connection, especially a husband for Lucinda with all the kids, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
