JOHN M. "JACK" GILLIAM and wife CYNTHIA POWELL
Posted by: Patricia Dakin (ID *****7507) Date: July 14, 2004 at 11:46:13

I hope someone can help me straighten out a mess. From certain data that I have obtained, I have that Cynthia Powell mar. John M. "Jack" Gilliam; he died abt 1836. Cynthia is found on censuses 1840 thru 1880. In 1880 she is in the household of her grandson James Gilliam, whom I believe might have been a son of Cynthia's son Robert Andrew Gilliam (Bob?). They were living in Union County, MS. Re: son Robert Andrew Gilliam, his wife was Elizabeth Jane Busby. I have that Robert died Oct. 1868; "Jane" was found on the 1880 Union Co. census as a widow. I felt pretty good about the census data and other data I obtained until I found on familysearch.com, ancestral file, the family group record for Robert (Bob) Gilliam, married to Jane (Sis) Busby, listing for the most part the same children that I had for the above Robert Andrew Gilliam and Jane Busby. However, the BIG CATCH here is that the parents of Robert (Bob) Gilliam as listed on the familysearch site were WILLIAM GUSTAIRS GILLIAM and CYNTHIA POWELL. Therefore, I really am confused. Also, there are some slight discrepancies with the dates. My date of birth for Robert based on census data shows an approximate birth date of 1823; the familysearch site shows 1827 in Union Co., MS. Based on census research, I show Jane b. abt 1826 in TN; family search site shows her b. abt 1832 in Union Co. MS. Will appreciate any assistance in clearing up these families. Thanks. patdakin@mindspring.com
