Alexander Gillette NewEngland-NY circa 1776

I have a copy of Calvin's commentary on Isaiah in Latin that was acquired, signed & dated by an Alexander Gillette in 1776. I am tracking the ownership of this volume and would like more information about this person. The book was previously owned by Elder William Brewster, the leader of the Mayflower/Plymouth community. I am a descendent of Brewster but have found no Gillette among my ancestors or other descendents of Brewster. I presume that Gillette would have been an educated Calvinist clergyman (Congregationalist, Presbyterian or Reformed?). But how & why he got this book is a mystery. Any possible biographical info on Gillette would be appreciated.
