Gilletts in Brooklyn, NY in mid-1800's

Hello everyone.

I've recently discovered (with some help from others on these boards) that some of my ancestors were from the GILLETT line. I'm hoping someone out there recognizes a little bit of this info, and can help me figure out where in France they came from so I can continue backtracking.

John Gillett (born 1815), his wife Annie (maiden name unknown, bown 1817) and their daughter Mary (born 1852) were all born in France, although the exact location of where they were born is unknown. As of the 1880 Census, Mary had married Peter (Pierre?) ROSSEL (born in 1847, also in France), and lived in the household with her parents (John and Annie, above), and their two sons (John, born 1875 and my G-G-Grandfather, James, born 1874, both in the US). It is unknown if Peter and Mary were married in France, or in New York.

What I'm hoping to find out is either if anyone knows of boat information between France and NY in that time period (it would be between 1852 and 1874) and where they normally departed from in France, or more specifically, if anyone out there might know of these Gilletts and where they're from in France.

Thanks in advance!

Robert C. Rossel
