The Gillespie DNA Project has tested descendants of Gillespie families that resided in Lancaster and Washington Co. PA in the early 1700s. DNA results proved that both families are related with a common ancestor that may have lived in Ulster. These families also matched another Gillespie line that went to Rowan Co. NC and another that remained in Ireland. These families belong to Gillespie DNA Group 1 in the I1 haplogroup.

Lancaster Co. PA was the arrival point for many of the Ulster Scots. The Gillespie DNA Project at Family Tree DNA is interested in obtaining the DNA of more of those Gillespie families for comparison.
