Realizing George W. was the right age to participate in the War of Northern Aggression, I searched for a military record.
George Willard Gillespie, enlisted 5-25-1861 at Charlottesville in Company I, VA 19th Infantry. He received several promotions, was a prisoner, was wounded,etc. He was 19 when he enlisted as a private. "The Virginia Regimental History Series" states he was born 7-29-1848, but this should state 1842. He died 10-15-1917, and was buried in Jones Family Cemetary, Fluvanna County, VA.
Was Hester a Jones? Did he possibly have a Jones as a second wife? Is this the correct person? If so, I can provide more details.
