Please see the genealogies posted at the Gillespie DNA Project on the RESULTS PAGE and the Y-RESULTS PAGE.

Several descendants of WILLIAM ABNER GILLESPIE have taken the DNA test. WILLIAM ABNER GILLESPIE is related to GEORGE GILLESPIE OF AMHERST CO. VA. I have listed this GILLESPIE line as GILLESPIE DNA GROUP 13. They are not related to other colonial Gillespie lines tested so far.

WILLIAM ABNER GILLESPIE is not related to the GILLESPIE/FINLEY line shown at
http://www.smokymountainsphotogallery.com/abph.html. I have listed the GILLESPIE/FINLEY line on the DNA site as GILLESPIE DNA GROUP 5.

DNA GROUP 5 and DNA GROUP 13 both belong to the R1b haplogroup, but DNA GROUP 5 belongs to a subset of that haplogroup known by the SNP as M222+. M222+ split from R1b somewhere between 1,500 to 3,500 years ago. M222+ is believed to have originated in North West Ireland.
