Hi James,

Please read the information below about the GILLESPIE - ALLEN connection and the DNA results that tie several Gillespie families together that lived in different geographical areas.

The project would very much like for you to also take the DNA test to prove the connection of your GEORGE GILLESPIE - JANE ALLEN family of Albemarle Co. VA to the others in DNA Group 1. I have posted the links to the project at Family Tree DNA.

You can also contact me directly at lairdkinna@yahoo.com for further information.

Connie McKenzie - Gillespie DNA Project Administrator and descendant of DNA GROUP 1 Thomas Gillespie and Naomi Thompson.

The family of George Gillespie who married Jane Allen in PA at an earlier date than the couple in VA moved to Warren Co. Ohio.

We currently have another Ohio Gillespie descendant in the DNA testing process.

DNA GROUP #1 -- 13 DNA KITS.

HAPLOGROUP I2b1 +M284 DNA TEST KIT #28870 was SNP tested to establish the exact haplogroup for GROUP 1. In October 2006 the results were returned showing that the haplogroup is I1c. In 2008 the name of this haplogroup was changed to I2b1 +M284. According to FTDNA, the I1b1 lineage likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking / Scandinavian populations in Northwest Europe and extends at low frequencies into Central and Eastern Europe.

The common ancestor of THOMAS GILLESPIE and Col. GEORGE GILLESPIE has not been determined. However the results of the 67 marker DNA tests have shown that all of the GROUP 1 participants are very closely related.

DNA results have proven that Thomas Gillespie b. 1719 of Rowan Co. NC is a close relative of Col. George Gillespie of Washington Co. TN who married Elizabeth Allen and George Gillespie of PA and Ohio who married Jane Allen.
