James W, Margaret & Jehu (b. 1809-1821), of Daniel GALLASPY and Nancy WALKER?
Searching for the parents of James William "Jim" GALLASPY (spelled various ways in the records, including Galaspy, Gallaspie, Galespie, Gillespie, Gillaspie, Glaspy, Glasby, even Gullispie, but the family used GALLASPY).
James William "Jim" GALLASPY was born on April 27, 1809, probably in GEORGIA (though one record says England), and married (1st wife) Angelina YOUNG probably before 1835, possibly in Monroe County, Alabama. "Jim" had at least 5 children with Angelina, including:
1. son Theodore Young GALLASPY I (b. May 08, 1844 in Mobile, Alabama),
2. son J.C. GALLASPY (b. 1849 in Arkansas), and
3. Three (3) daughters (one of whom may have been named Sarah / "Sallie").
Angelina YOUNG Gallaspy is presumed to have died (after 1849), for on October 22, 1862, in Mansfield, De Soto Parish, Louisiana, James William "Jim" GALLASPY married Sarah L. "Sallie" PHIFER, with whom he had at least 6 more children:
1. Lelia GALLASPY (b. 1865),
2. Robert GALLASPY (b. 1867),
3. John GALLASPY (b. 1870),
4. Louisa GALLASPY (b. 1871),
5. Maud GALLASPY (b. 1873), and
6. Sarah GALLASPY (b. 1875).
James William "Jim" GALLASPY had at least two siblings:
1. Margaret (or Margarite) "Peggie" GALLASPY, born before 1819, married Edward "Ned" DAVIS, and
2. Jehu GALLASPY, born November 11, 1821,possibly in Conecuh County, ALABAMA (though one record says Virginia), married Mary "Polly" JENKINS on December 19, 1844.
It's possible that there was at least one other brother, named Price or Prince GALLASPY.
"Jim", "Peggie" and Jehu's mother died when Jehu was an infant (after 1821, probably before 1823) and their father died when Jehu was 7 or 8 (probably after 1828). Jehu went to live with his oldest sister "Peggie", and Peggie's family moved to LOUISIANA, about 1839.
About 10 years ago, someone suggested that their parents might have been Daniel GALLASPY (who may have been born in Virginia and may have had a brother named David GALLASPY) and Nancy WALKER (who may have been born in Georgia or Virginia), but i no longer have the source of that suggestion. [Hard drives do fail, by the way. :-(
Does anyone recognize this family and know if the parents were Daniel GALLASPY and Nancy WALKER -- or perhaps some other couple?
Thanks for any help! (i will cross-post this on all the other boards with the various spellings).
